If it is anticipated that the geology that is required to be drilled through is very difficult (i.e. consists of solid rock) then we can mobilise a Rotary Drilling Rig to the site.
The drilling method involves a powered rotary cutting head on the end of a shaft, driven into the ground as it rotates. The system requires lubrication (air, water or drilling mud) to keep the cutting head cool
The method is useful for obtaining disturbed or undisturbed (U4) samples of rock. In-situ SPT testing can also be undertaken.
Typically, this can achieve depths of around 20m in a day depending on the local geology encountered. Rotary Drilling Rigs are relatively large and require good access conditions.
