STM Environmental was recently approached by a local council to map out areas of potentially contaminated land within the local region. This project spanning a number of epochs ranging over 200 years involved sifting through old maps with a fine tooth comb in order to pick out sites of potential contamination, ranging from old industrial factories to more modern hospitals.
The resultant effect of this was to build up a repository of polygons in our Geographical Information System which mapped all areas of potential contamination throughout the years. The final map of sites can be seen below.
STM’s diligence provided the council with an exceptional breadth of knowledge regarding their contaminative sites, another example of our expertise in data management.
